At last Thursday's Executive meeting, the results of Wokingham Borough Council's care charges consultation were discussed. Wokingham Liberal Democrats were stunned to see that the Conservative Executive agreed to carry on with their policy to change their care charges policy, despite more than half of those responding to the consultation disagreeing that people who have over £23,250 should pay for the care they receive.

At the Council meeting the Conservative Executive deferred the consideration of a Housing Strategy for a further two months.

The Council's Decent Homes Project underway in Woodley is providing new kitchens and bathrooms in council-owned properties to bring these aging properties up to the government's minimum standard. This is the first upgrade the properties have had in 30 to 50 years.

At last Thursday's Council meeting, Wokingham Liberal Democrats were pleased that councillors unanimously backed their motion calling for greater resident involvement in Council decision making.

At the Executive meeting on Thursday, Cllr Prue Bray, the leader of Wokingham Liberal Democrats, will be asking a question about the proposed Council job cuts. She will be asking how many Council employed staff will be made redundant and which Council services will be affected the most.

At last Thursday's Council meeting, Wokingham Liberal Democrats were astonished by the Conservative-led administration's over-optimism in recouping the £5 million of council tax payer's money it invested in the collapsed Icelandic banks. The Executive Member for Council Budgets, Anthony Pollock, confidently predicted that the Council expected to recover nearly all the £5 million investment.

At last Thursday's Executive meeting Cllr Prue Bray, the leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Wokingham Borough Council, asked a question about the Council's consultation on the proposed changes to charges for day care, home care and respite care.
