The decision to reroute the Reading Bus company's "Night Bus" service away from Mill Lane Earley has been welcomed by residents. This action is the result of residents contacting Cllr Dave Swindells the Liberal Democrat Councillor for Little Hungerford Ward and complaining that the service should NOT go down this residential road and it was disturbing their night's sleep.
Cllr Swindells contacted Reading Buses and the transport section of Wokingham District Council. In the new transport arrangements which are due to come into effect in the Autumn the bus route will be extended to Loddon Bridge Showcase cinema and then travel down Lower Earley Way and Rushey Way avoiding the residential houses on Mill Lane.
"This makes a great deal of sense and I am pleased that the Bus Company have been listening to what I have been saying." stated Cllr Swindells "This new route will I am sure reach far more people by going down to the cinema and then going to the Hotel and its associated facilities including the Public House. It must also be a route which is more economic for the Bus Company because of its potential to attract more clients."
The new service will come into operation when the new Reading Night Service operations come into effect.
