Wokingham Lib Dems attack Town's Litter Problem

May 19, 2003 12:00 AM

Wokingham Liberal Democrats have become increasingly concerned that many areas of Wokingham are not cleaned up properly and are full of litter.

Councillor Tina Marinos (Lib Dem Councillor for Evendons ward) said, "I receive many letters from residents complaining bitterly about inadequate street cleaning, only to be told by the Council that there are not enough funds. The cleanliness of our town should be a priority, and the Council should allocate enough money to do the job properly. As many residents have said to me, letting this situation continue simply shows that the Tory administration does not care."

Local Liberal Democrats are organising litter-picking sessions around the District and the first session will take place on Saturday 7th June. Tina Marinos said, "If you can join us, meet us at the Safeways entrance at 2 p.m. - and please bring some bin liners and rubber gloves.

"I am pleased that John Green, a Tory Councillor, supports our position. At the last Council meeting on 15th May he criticised his own Tory colleagues for failing to take action on this issue!"
