Wokingham Liberal Democrats were this weekend celebrating their success in the Winnersh by-election held last Thursday (25th November). The new Winnersh councillor for Wokingham District Council is Malcolm Armstrong, who beat the Tory candidate with a healthy majority last night.
Malcolm Armstrong said, "This is a huge thrill for me. I'm eager to get on with the job of working for the people of Winnersh. I've had a wonderful response from all the people I've met over the last few weeks, and now it's my turn to give something back to the community.
"My thanks go to the many Liberal Democrats who helped the election campaign. The Lib Dem team braved the cold and rain to get our message across. The residents of Winnersh now have two Lib Dem Councillors working for them, Prue Bray and me. I'm determined to do as much for Winnersh as Prue has already achieved. Together we can do even more."
Leader of the Wokingham Liberal Democrat Councillor Group, Coling Lawley, said, "It is a great pleasure to welcome Malcolm to the Lib Dem team at Wokingham District Council. This resounding win is a turning point for the Liberal Democrats in Wokingham district. The message from the residents is that they want Lib Dems working for them, and my message to them is that we intend to do just that!"
Fellow Lib Dem Winnersh Councillor, Prue Bray, said, "Malcolm will be a strong voice for Winnersh. I couldn't ask for a better, more hard-working team mate. You will be hearing a lot more about the Prue and Malcolm double act in Winnersh in future."
