Wokingham Liberal Democrats have criticised Tory plans to cut hot school dinners in Wokingham District schools. This option will be considered by the Tory Executive at Wokingham District Council today (Thursday 29th July). It is expected that, should this option be chosen, £143,730 will be saved.
Councillor Beth Rowland (Lib Dem spokesperson for Education and Councillor for South Lake ward) said, "Cutting hot school meals will hit some of the most vulnerable people in our district. There are children in our schools who rely on their school dinner as the only proper meal they get. You can't maintain a good, nutritious diet by cutting costs.
"This is a callous cut, especially when considered against the £137,000 the Tories are asking for to implement a number of office moves at the Council offices at Shute End. These two items will be considered one after the other at the Executive meeting tonight (Thursday 29th July). I hope they get their priorities right and choose to support our school children's needs before their own."
