Wokingham Liberal Democrats have today expressed surprise at the news that the Leader of Wokingham District Council, Frank Browne, has started working for Green Issues, a public relations company specialising in promoting housing development.
Councillor Coling Lawley (Leader of the Lib Dem Councillor Group) said, "Green Issues Company is employed by a housing developer who wants to build 450 houses on contaminated land on Sandford Farm in Woodley. Green Issues is employed to persuade the Council and residents to accept this development.
"It is extraordinary that Frank Browne has chosen to work with a company which is involved in this planning application with the very Council he leads. This must lead to a major conflict of interest.
"Frank Browne has promised to reduce the number of new houses to be built in Wokingham district. Now he works for a company that actively promotes large scale housing development in the district. It would take an extremely clever spin doctor to make that sound honourable and decent to our residents."
