"Proposals by the Tory Leader of Wokingham District Council to give more decision-making powers to Council officers mean that even more decisions will be made in secret", says Councillor Coling Lawley (Leader of the Lib Dem Councillor Group).
"I'm all for delegation, but this is ridiculous", Coling Lawley said, "This proposal means that Council officers could sell off Council property and land up to a value of £150,000 without Councillors even knowing. At the moment the level is set at £10,000 - I can't imagine why such a huge increase is proposed.
"The Tory trend is towards taking less and less responsibility for making Council decisions, and keeping everybody in the dark. This is the perfect way to sow seeds of doubt and distrust in the public."
