Councillor Stephen Conway (Lib Dem Councillor for Twyford ward) last night called upon Frank Browne, the Conservative Leader of Wokingham District Council, to resign. This followed the Council Executive's last-minute retreat from axing free travel tokens for elderly and disabled people in the district.
Stephen Conway said, "Frank Browne should do the decent thing and resign because the proposals he originally wanted to push through would have caused enormous damage to many of the most vulnerable people in our District. His wish to reduce choice by scrapping travel tokens caused great upset and distress to many residents. He only backed down in the face of overwhelming pressure.
"This situation was entirely of his own making, and he can blame no-one but himself. The honourable thing for him to do is resign as Leader of the Council."
