The Tory Executive of Wokingham District Council last night voted to go out to consultation on proposals to remove care services from some vulnerable adults in an attempt to make savings in the face of a steep rise in the cost of providing the service.
Councillor David Hare (Lib Dem Spokesperson for Social Care Services) said, "The Tories seem to be trying to make all the savings from within the Social Services budget. I believe they should be looking at spreading the load across the whole Council budget rather than concentrating the whole burden on the most vulnerable people."
Councillor Prue Bray (Leader of the Liberal Democrat Councillor Group) said, "The escalating cost of providing social care is a problem for many local authorities. The Council must lobby the Government vigorously to get them to realise the extent of the problem and to persuade them to provide sufficient resources to deal with it."
