Wokingham District Liberal Democrat Councillors call on Reading Borough Council not to proceed with their one-way IDR scheme. On the evidence we have seen we believe the proposed one-way IDR will have a serious adverse impact on the roads within Wokingham District.
Reading Borough Council has failed to properly consider the concerns expressed by officers and members from Wokingham District Council, our town and parish councils, and members of the public.
Reading Borough Council should not proceed with its plans until it has addressed the issues raised and resolved them to our mutual satisfaction.
Reading Borough Council's persistence in riding roughshod over its neighbouring authorities and continuing to push through such a far-reaching and unproven proposal is not in the interests of Wokingham District's residents.
Councillor Prue Bray (Leader of the Wokingham Liberal Democrat Group and Councillor for Winnersh) said, "Reading Borough Council is determined to steamroller this flawed plan through regardless of their neighbours. We are worried about how the IDR plan will impact on us, but Reading Council have shown callous indifference to our concerns.
"Liberal Democrats from Reading and all the surrounding council areas are working together to oppose the IDR plans. We urge Reading Borough Council to listen to its neighbours before deciding to go ahead."
