At last night's Council meeting at Wokingham District Council, Councillor Malcolm Armstrong (Lib Dem Councillor Winnersh ward) urged the Tories to join the Environment Agency's campaign to help save the planet.
Councillor Armstrong said, "This is a great way for individuals to go green and help save our environment. You can make up to ten promises of how you personally can change your lifestyle to help the planet. These vary from taking a shower instead of a bath, to turning the tap off when you're cleaning your teeth.
"This may not sound as if it would make much difference, but the campaign has so far received 100,463 promises, saving
47,879 kg of carbon dioxide (958,446 kg if promise kept for a year)
17,644,764 litres of water (316,457,100 litres over a year)
123,374 plastic bags (2,282,592 over a year)
"Protecting the environment has always been a deeply held principle of the Liberal Democrats, so this comes as second nature to your Lib Dem Councillors. We want to encourage others to take some simple steps to help look after our planet.
"I'm disappointed the Conservatives would not commit to signing up to this good cause, but the public are very welcome to join in. The more the merrier!".
