Wokingham Liberal Democrats are mystified as to why the Tory-controlled Wokingham District Council refuses to divulge which sites are being considered for a new vocational centre. The Tories pledged to build a new vocational centre in the District as part of their "Vision for Education".
Councillor Beth Rowland (Lib Dem spokesperson for Education and Councillor for South Lake ward) said, "The Lib Dems asked the Tories to consider a site at Winnersh Triangle for the new vocational centre. This would be ideal as it's central and close to public transport links.
"Since then, the Tories have refused to let us know whether they are considering the site or not."
Councillor Prue Bray (newly elected Leader of the Liberal Democrat Councillor Group and Councillor for Winnersh ward) said, "I have asked Frank Browne, Tory Leader of the Council, if my suggested site is being considered, but I have received no response. Why on earth won't he tell us what is going on?
"It's important that my suggestion is followed up now. Slough Estates will be developing the land at Winnersh Triangle, so we need to be talking to them about our ideas for a new vocational centre before it's too late. The Tories mustn't fail to take this once in a lifetime opportunity."
