Helpless and ignored?
At last night's Wokingham Borough council meeting, Liberal Democrat councillors were outraged that the Tory administration had cut help for some of the most vulnerable residents in the Borough.
Councillor Dee Tomlin (Lib Dem Councillor for Twyford ward) said, "Elderly and disabled people living in council accommodation previously had their grass and hedges cut by the council. This service has now been axed. These people are unable to do this work themselves, which is why they needed the help. They cannot afford to pay somebody to come and do it for them.
"This is yet another attack on those least able to manage. It follows on from the Conservatives' decision to take away help in the home from many elderly residents, and to increase the cost of Meals on Wheels by about four times the rate of inflation.
"A caring council in a civilised society ought to regard looking after those who need help as a top priority. Sadly, the Conservative administration at Wokingham seems to have an entirely different set of priorities."
