At last night's council meeting, Councillor Malcolm Armstrong (Lib Dem councillor for Winnersh ward) called on the Tory executive member for highways, Cllr Keith Baker, to end the flooding problem at Winnersh station once and for all.
Councillor Malcolm Armstrong said, "We have had enough of the chaos this continued flooding causes. The last time it happened the puddle was so deep that cars could only get through by driving down the centre of the road. The pavement was under water, and pedestrians were getting drenched.
"We were told by Keith Baker in March that they expected to solve the problem shortly. And Liz Siggery (Tory councillor for Winnersh ward) even announced in an election leaflet in April that she had solved the problem! (see note below). But here we are in November and the flooding is as bad as ever.
"Keith Baker told me at last night's meeting that he was still looking at the problem. How much longer do the residents of Winnersh have to wait for the Tories to get their act together to sort it out?"
NOTE:
A Winnersh 'In Touch' leaflet in April 2008 ran the headline: "Councillor Liz Siggery has solved the drainage problem at Winnersh station".
