Prue Bray
Prue Bray, Lib Dem candidate in Wokingham constituency, has today welcomed the start of the General Election campaign.
The Lib Dems are in a strong second place behind the Conservatives in Wokingham. Labour have been in third place since 1987 and their vote is declining. Labour have not had any councillors in the constituency for some time.
Lib Dem candidate Prue Bray is currently Leader of the Lib Dem Group on Wokingham Borough Council. She has lived in the constituency for more than 20 years.
She says "I will be campaigning at this election for a fair deal for local people. Fairness in taxation - a £700 tax cut for the average earner. Fairness for schools - nearly £7 million extra for Wokingham and West Berks schools, through the Lib Dems' pupil premium. Fairness in jobs - a "green road" out of the recession through investing in renewable energy. And fair and accountable politics. All MPs share some responsibility for the problems that grew up over expenses but we must now reform the political system."
"Knocking on doors in recent days, I have found considerable disillusionment with both Conservative and Labour. People want to see the back of this Labour government, but they are suspicious of what the Conservatives stand for. After 65 years of failure, we are dubbing them the "Labservatives" - each as bad as the other. People want to see a stronger Lib Dem presence in Parliament. And they recognise that Vince Cable is by far the best person to be Chancellor.

"I welcome the opportunity to put forward the Lib Dems' policies to the people of Wokingham constituency. I am optimistic and hopeful as we put the strong case for the Liberal Democrats locally. If I am elected I will work as hard as possible for the people of the area. Campaigning to safeguard and attract jobs. Fighting for a fair deal for carers, and for our schools and hospitals. Speaking up for our armed forces. Getting a better deal for pensioners and getting the earnings link with the pension restored. Campaigning for university tuition fees to be scrapped and voting against any increase in them."
Prue has a good track record of campaigning for local people on the issues that matter to them - from protecting Elms Field in Wokingham town centre, to stopping building at Kennet Valley Park in Burghfield, to fighting the closure of Ryeish Green School. And if she is elected she has promised not to take any paid advisory roles or directorships.
She says "It's time for a change - but not just any old change. This country needs a real change from the failed politics of the two main parties, and that's the kind of change that only the Liberal Democrats are offering at this election."
