At the Council meeting on Thursday, Cllr Stephen Conway (Liberal Democrat Councillor for Twyford ward) will be proposing a motion calling for Wokingham Borough Council to give incentives for recycling rather than force local residents to recycle more by reducing the amount of domestic rubbish collected. The motion has been proposed in light of the Council's plans to limit households in the Borough to just 80 sacks of waste a year.
Cllr Conway said: 'The Liberal Democrats are very concerned about the Conservative Council's proposals to ration households in the Borough to just 80 sacks of domestic rubbish a year. We believe that these plans will threaten the local environment with increased fly tipping. Also, local residents will be forced to pay unfair backdoor bin taxes, levied by the Council, for any additional sacks beyond the 80 officially provided to each household.
'The Liberal Democrats would rather see the Council give incentives for local residents to recycle, as happens in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.'
