At last Thursday's Council meeting, Liberal Democrat campaigner Rachelle Shepherd-DuBey presented a petition calling for Wokingham Borough Council to provide a pedestrian crossing on Robin Hood Lane in Winnersh.
Rachelle said: 'I presented a petition with 125 signatures to Wokingham Borough Council asking for a pedestrian crossing to be provided on Robin Hood Lane near Arbor Lane.
'Earlier this year, a few mothers from Winnersh Primary School approached me and told me that they had asked Wokingham Borough Council for a pedestrian crossing. The council officer told them they wouldn't provide a crossing because they couldn't justify it unless there was a fatality at that location.
'I would like to ask the Council who would like to volunteer to be that fatality or which child should be sacrificed so others aren't harmed?
'I was also told that some parents chose to drive their children to school so they wouldn't have to expose them to crossing that dangerous road.
'A crossing will prevent injury to young children attending Winnersh Primary School and increase the number of parents willing to walk their children to school.'
