Low Income Earners Let Down by Tories

12.00.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 23rd Jun 2008

Councillor Prue Bray, the Leader, Lib-Dem Group, Wokingham Borough Council, has slammed Tory MPs for letting down low-income earners. Prue said:

"The Tories were quick to jump on the bandwagon criticising Labour's decision to scrap the 10p income tax rate. This change means the lowest income earners now pay more income tax.

"The Liberal Democrats called for a compensation plan to help the lowest earners.

"But Tory MPs refused to support the Lib Dem plan that would help those people who would be hardest hit.

"It's about time the Tories took action instead of jumping on bandwagons."
