Liberal Democrats Put People First

  • We are providing more school places and more help for children with special educational needs.
  • We have secured funding for 2 new special schools and funded free school meals when the government withdrew support.
  • We are meeting the rising demand for children’s services and adult social care.
  • We have supported the most vulnerable through the cost of living crisis.

If you vote for us we will continue to put people first, giving each individual the chance to make the most of their life.

Liberal Democrats Care for our Environment

  • We have brought forward action to improve council property energy security, carbon efficiency and reduce costs and to help residents make their own home energy improvements.
  • We will keep a weekly waste service whilst collecting different forms of waste more efficiently, saving taxpayers more than £1m per year, encouraging recycling and ending reliance on single-use plastic bags.

A vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for Wokingham’s contribution to addressing humanity’s biggest threat.

Liberal Democrats are Making Wokingham Borough a Great Place to Live

  • Our pressure on the government for local control of house building is working.  We are expecting rule changes this year to allow us to build housing that meets local needs rather than the desires of property developers and reduces the need to build on green space.
  • We have already stopped the proposed building of 270 houses on WBC owned Rooks Nest Farm.  If the government changes allow others will follow, including those that received the most objections from the latest draft Local Plan Update consultation.
  • We are passionate about supporting arts & culture, libraries, sport and leisure, to help the borough’s citizens enrich their lives.  Promoting creativity benefits individuals, society and the economy through collaboration with local businesses on delivery.
  • We have acted to keep the borough moving with new approaches in place of the failed policies of the past:
    • Protecting road maintenance funding, fixing potholes and investing more in preventative measures.
    • Supporting bus services when the government withdrew funding and committing to do so for at least 3 more years.
    • Tackling congestion without just building ever more roads and providing more choice as to how people travel, including helping people walk or cycle local trips
  • In partnership with community groups, businesses, residents and other political parties we are shaping a vision for the future of our borough to guide all our future policies, decisions and services.

With your continued support we will create a borough that is fit for the future.

Liberal Democrats are Securing our Future

  • We have managed the council’s finances responsibly against the pressures of inflation, government funding reductions and the shortfalls we inherited.
  • We have taken the long term decisions necessary to secure the council’s finances for the coming years.
  • In our first year, we have reduced council costs, increased income, protected vital services and started to rebuild the financial reserves raided by our predecessors.
  • We have challenged the government to give a fair deal to Wokingham and end the  under-funding of our borough by £30m a year compared to the average local unitary authority.

We commit to continuing to manage the council in this responsible way.
