Request for Post Office to extend consultation on proposed post office closures

October 26, 2007 12:00 PM

The Liberal Democrats have prompted Wokingham Borough Council to ask Post Office Ltd to extend the time allowed for consultation on proposed post office closures in the borough.

On the 11th December, the Post Office will be publishing the details of which post offices in the borough it plans to close. That kicks off a six-week consultation period which runs through the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Councillor Prue Bray (Leader of the Liberal Democrat Councillor Group and Councillor for Winnersh ward) said, "Running a consultation on post office closures during the Christmas holidays will not give anybody a proper chance to respond, and that is not good enough on an issue that matters to so many people."

At the Council meeting, the Conservatives agreed to support the Lib Dem call to write to the Post Office.

Note: This does not apply to post offices in wards in Maidenhead constituency as that consultation does not commence until January.
