Wokingham Conservatives cut Community Waste Collection Service

Liberal Democrat councillors are appalled that Wokingham Borough Council's Conservative decision making Executive has cut a valued and useful local service before the Council's own investigations into the service were complete.

Cllr Lindsay Ferris (Twyford ward) said "Our local towns and parishes value the amenity service that provides community waste collection at convenient places within local areas. The Community Partnerships Overview and Scrutiny Committee that was tasked with reviewing this service has recognised that the service is still required and was intending to look at this further, but the Executive have just cut the service and that's it.

"The Lib Dems want to challenge this decision but the council's procedures prevent us doing this because the investigation of the service has been considered by overview and scrutiny committee - even though they haven't actually finished working on it.

"What nonsense. As ever, the Conservatives seem determined to do whatever they like and are not prepared to listen to anybody else."
