LIB DEMS CALL FOR FULL CONSULTATION OVER HURST GOLF CLUB REPLACEMENT

Lib Dems have written to Cllr Angus Ross, who oversaw the Conservatives' abrupt decision to close Hurst Golf Club, about the importance of proper consultation with local residents when deciding on replacement facilities.

Cllr Tom McCann (Loddon ward) said "The Conservatives closed the golf club with no consultation or apology to users. How can they then be trusted to consult properly on alternatives uses?

"This is why the Lib Dem group have written to the Conservative lead member asking for reassurance that a timely, full and fair consultation will take place on what will replace the golf course and also asking that the Borough's residents be fully able to influence any decision making. We have asked for guarantees that the consultation will not be prejudiced towards what appear to be clear preferences within the Executive report for Footgolf and triathlon, as these are not activities lots of people would take part in.

"There are plenty of other things that might be considered and there is probably room for lots of different activities. What about: - pitch and putt, a driving range, crazy golf, a BMX track, mountain bike trail, or a Paddling pool? The Lib Dems think the best way to decide is to put in what people actually want to see there and what they will take part in. "
