Hamble's Member of Parliament, Mike Thornton, has backed local Parish Councils and residents opposing 225 homes slap bang in the middle of the countryside at Hound Corner.

"This is the worst possible greedy land-grab from a developer", said Mike Thornton MP

Speculative Sheffield-based developer Hallam Land Management wants to build 225 houses and a care home on open countryside next to Hamble Station, opposite Hamble Broadway and Hamble Secondary School's entrance. Eastleigh Borough Council's Local Area Committee, chaired by Bursledon Councillor Tonia Craig, opposed the plans. Now, the builder wants the Planning Inspectorate to over-rule local residents and our councils.

Mike Thornton met with Cllr Craig and Hamble and Butlocks Heath councillor Malcolm Cross on-site this week.

"This is the worst possible greedy land-grab from a developer", said Mike. "These plans would build in open countryside In the middle of the green gap between Hamble, Netley and Bursledon. It's an utter nonsense".

Hamble councillor Malcolm Cross agrees. "We know we need more housing but Hamble Lane is the last place for major new development. More than 500 local people wrote in opposed to building here. I support their objections".

The appeal is likely to be heard by the Planning Inspector, responsible to the Secretary of State for Local Government, Eric Pickles, in May.
