Lib Dems call for fair share of the Borough’s budget for Woodley

At the budget council meeting, last Thursday night, Woodley Lib Dem councillors attacked the Conservatives on Wokingham Borough council for failing to fairly represent Woodley's residents.

Councillor Tom McCann (Loddon ward) launched a blistering attack on the Conservatives insisting that Woodley residents should get their fair share of the borough council's budget. Tom said "In outline terms this council has been underspending in Woodley for years. It's time for Woodley residents to get their fair share of funding. Under this Tory administration all the spending goes on Wokingham town, what about the rest of us? This has to be addressed. "

Cllr Kay Gilder (South Lake ward) added "This budget shows that investment in Bulmershe leisure centre has been delayed by two years. Is it any wonder that as a Woodley councillor I see red when this council can't even deliver £6 million for our leisure centre next year - but has started consulting on major new leisure facilities around Carnival Pool and has casually added £40 million to the cost of regenerating Wokingham town?"
