Libdems tackling Nuisance phonecalls

By Wokingham Liberal Democrats

Clive jones, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Wokingham supports changes in law regarding nuisance calls.

"We are all plagued by nuisance calls and texts its time something was done. I know some people who get 3 or 4 of these calls a day"

Consumers will now benefit from changes to the law, which will make it easier for those responsible to be hit with fines of up to £500,000.
The law currently requires the Information Commissioner's Office to prove a company caused 'substantial damage or substantial distress' by their conduct before action can be taken.
Following a six-week public consultation, the Government is now removing this legal threshold, giving the ICO the power to intervene in more cases. This change will come into effect from April 2015.

This is a great victory for Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart, who has campaigned on this for years.

He is the founder and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Nuisance Calls and launched the 'No 2 Nuisance Calls' campaign, which presented a petition of 20,000 signatures to Downing Street.
