On Friday a meeting at Portsmouth City Council is set to announce the naming rights to the Spinnaker Tower are being sold.

"This work started under the Lib Dem administration of the City Council and we welcome the news that this work looks as if it has come to a successful conclusion," said Portsmouth Lib Dem Leader Gerald Vernon-Jackson.

"The naming rights of the Aegeus Bowl outside Southampton bring in over £300,000 a year. The naming of Brighton's football stadium cost AMEX a reported £450,000. We hope that Portsmouth City Council can bring in at least this amount especially with the draw of the America's Cup team here," says Councillor Ben Dowling, Lib Dem Opposition Spokesperson for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development at Portsmouth City Council.

"I am also disappointed that all these discussions have been held in secret by the Conservative administration; once again showing the culture of secrecy that currently exists at Portsmouth City Council."
