At the Full Council Meeting 23rd July 2015, Wokingham Borough Council unanimously agreed to consult on the budget in future. Until now the Conservative led Council has not carried out any form of budget consultation unlike other councils. The Lib Dems had put forward a motion in a bid to include public consultation and input into decision making about how and where public money is spent each year as the Council sets its annual budgets.

Cllr Lindsay Ferris (Twyford ward) said "it was a shame the Conservatives couldn't quite bring themselves to go as far as we had proposed in improving the process for budget setting, but it is great that finally they are starting to understand what we have been saying for years. My fellow Lib Dem ward councillors put forward similar motions in January 2012 and September 2013 and it's taken the Conservatives all this time to finally catch up to what the public deserve and that is a say in the money spent on their services.

Our persistence has paid off and the winners are the residents of Wokingham who at last will now be able to have some part in the process of allocating funding and spending to local services. "
