Tories deliver double blow - Lower Way field set for development

January 21, 2016 11:27 AM

Lower Way Field is heading for development.

Despite all objections Conservative led West Berkshire Council has put forward Lower Way field as the ONLY preferred option for housing development in Thatcham in their Housing Site Allocations Development Plan Document Proposed Submission (DPD).

This is despite the fact that:

  • More than 2,400 people signed a petition objecting to the building of 87 houses in this important location
  • 13 Public Rights of Way are still under formal consideration
  • Thatcham has already met its commitment to more than 900 new homes
  • The Lower Way field is a vital barrier between our urban development and ancient countryside.

This proposal means Lower Way field, a favourite with Thatcham walkers, will soon be developed with 87 new homes built. Development will create an increased flood risk for Thatcham and a build up of even more traffic on a road that is already breaking up under the weight of heavy traffic with the volumes of cars making their way to and from Newbury.

Only your help NOW can stop the Conservative agenda in Thatcham:

  • Write to your Thatcham Town Councillors - their email addresses are here or you can address a letter to them at Thatcham Town Council, Brownsfield Road, RG18 3HF.
