We have been saddened to hear about the sudden loss of life-long Liberal activist, Chris Hall. Chris was a staunch local campaigner, always ready to put shoe leather in service of his principles.

Chris was elected as Borough councillor five times and Mayor of Newbury, back when he was only 36 years old. In later years, he often worried about how to get younger people more interested and active in politics. As a Councillor in the 60s Chris worked to preserve many of Newbury's old buildings and was responsible for planting the avenue of Poplar trees at Stroud Green. He was still actively involved in our election campaigns until he was well into his eighties and was the current Vice President of Newbury and West Berkshire Liberal Democrats.
Parliamentary Candidate Judith Bunting said, "With dry humour and sound advice, he has been a huge support to me since I joined the Liberal Democrats in Newbury".
Outside politics, Chris trained as an artist at the Slade and exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Ashmolean, as with our own local Open Studios initiative.
Chris will be missed. Our thoughts are with his wife, Maria, and his family.
