Dr Phillip Lee – Lib Dem PPC for Wokingham

October 1, 2019 7:37 PM

Sir Ed Davey introduces Dr Phillip Lee as the Wokingham Lib Dems' new PPC

Dr Phillip Lee was announced as the Wokingham Liberal Democrats' PPC by Deputy Party Leader Sir Ed Davey at a packed meeting of members and supporters last Saturday.

Sir Ed announced that Dr Phillip Lee had been appointed to be the PPC for Wokingham. Dr Lee will be a fantastic candidate for us and will be leading from the front, declaring that he wants to talk at least 10,000 constituents on their doorsteps, between now and the election.

The room was rammed with over 150 members and supporters - far more than we had been expecting and Deputy Party Leader Sir Ed Davey laid out before us the tantalising prospect of finally ousting Sir John Redwood and having a Lib Dem MP in Wokingham for the first time ever.

Phillip is already drawing new members and supporters to the local party and this will only grow as the message spreads and we get out there alongside him to spread the word.

Wokingham could soon have not only a Lib Dem Wokingham Town Council, A Lib Dem controlled Earley Town Council but soon a Lib Dem controlled Borough Council and its first ever Lib Dem MP. This is a realistic opportunity and we must not this huge opportunity slip us by!

As Dr Lee said, "The General Election battle in Wokingham will be between the side of good politics and the side of bad politics".

For too long the constituents of Wokingham have been let down by their MP. This can change, we can part of delivering that change!

We have reached the position through the hard work, dedication and generous financial support of a number of people over the years including: Royce Longton, Prue Bray, Helen Power, Imogen Shepherd-DuBey and last, but by no means least, Clive Jones who stood as PPC in the last 2 General Elections and continues to do so much for residents as Leader of Earley Town Council and Deputy Group Leader on the Borough Council. Clive's contribution has been immense, and we will never properly be able to express our huge gratitude to him for helping us get to such a position.

Remember earlier this year we achieved the highest percentage locally in both the local and European elections, so to say that we can now push on to take the Parliamentary seat is a realistic objective. With Dr Lee in place, this is now a top tier target seat which means that alongside all our efforts, the national party will also be putting in considerable resource and effort. This was evidenced by having the Deputy Party Leader himself come to make the announcement.
