Clive Jones meets with Health Minister on Campaign for Arborfield Green GP Surgery
Arborfield Green and the surrounding villages have no GP surgery, and it is an area that will soon be 10,000 houses with around 24,000 residents. Residents must travel to surgeries 3 or more miles away, surgeries that already have above recommended numbers of patients per GP – a legacy of the Conservatives’ neglect of the NHS and general practice.
Clive Jones made the case for a surgery for Arborfield Green, so that local people can get the care they need without having to travel excessively, with many relying on infrequent and sparse public transport.
The Minister agreed to write to the regional NHS Chief Executive on this issue, and reiterated his earlier thanks to Clive Jones for his “impressive work... on access to primary care on behalf of his constituents in Wokingham”.
Clive Jones said:
“I am very pleased to have the Minister’s support for my campaign, and his agreement that large new developments such as Arborfield Green should have GP surgeries. Our discussions were very productive.
“People in and around the Arborfield Green area desperately need a GP surgery. There is a lot more to do to achieve our aim, but I am pleased that we are making steps towards that happening.
“I will ensure that I keep pushing for this in Westminster, and with the local NHS service providers, to ensure that Wokingham gets the right NHS services in the right places.
