The former leader of the Liberal Democrats, Vince Cable, visited Wokingham on Sunday in order to support Clive Jones, the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate.

Vince shared his thoughts about a recent YouGov poll showing a significant increase in Lib Dem popularity across the country as well as the support Clive Jones is receiving in Wokingham. He also spent some time with the team on a canvass session, meeting residents and hearing about their concerns.

Vince Cable, former leader of the Liberal Democrats, said: “The campaign nationally is going extremely well. We’re receiving reports that our support is exceptionally strong in our target seats.

I’m here to support Clive Jones, a really excellent candidate in a seat that we have a very good chance of winning. Wokingham is a place where many people are disillusioned with the Tory government after the Johnson & Truss disasters. They want change.

“This is an area where Lib Dems are very strong. If people want to use their votes effectively, they will support the Lib Dems. We have a very good chance, but I want to make sure we don’t miss out.”

Clive Jones, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Wokingham, said: “We were delighted to welcome Vince Cable to Wokingham on Sunday. Residents are still telling us they are fed up with the lack of action on the cost-of-living crisis and the wait to see a GP. They are disgusted with the sewage scandal and want Thames Water to be made to clean up their act.

“In Wokingham the election is between another Conservative, or a local Lib Dem MP who will stand up and fight for a fair deal for residents.”
