Council approves Wokingham Community Vision 2035
The Liberal Democrats in Wokingham are delighted that the Community Vision 2035 was approved by Wokingham Borough Council at its meeting on 24 October 2024. The Wokingham Vision 2035 was developed in collaboration with local people and organisations and outlines a comprehensive plan for the future of the borough.
A first-of-its-kind initiative for the borough, the Liberal Democrat council oversaw the co-creation of this Community Vision, which provides a roadmap to a shared, prosperous future for Wokingham Borough. The Vision was created over the course of a 12 month engagement process which sought the input of local people, organisations, Town and Parish councils, schools and the Youth Council, amongst others. Ninety-nine organisations, 34 targeted events and 500 online contributions ensured broad representation of views from across the community.
The Wokingham Community has identified 6 key ambitions and outcomes, including protecting and improving places, economic success and healthy and independent lives. Achieving the vision will require collaboration between community partners, local government and residents. A measurable action plan for each of the ambitions will be developed to turn the vision into reality.
Liberal Democrat Leader of the Council, Councillor Stephen Conway said:
“I’m delighted to see the ideas sketched out more than eighteen months ago at an inaugural meeting in Wokingham Town Hall now becoming reality. This has been a great collaborative effort, a manifestation of partnership working at its best.
“The Vision will commit all of us – council and partner organisations – to working to deliver its aspirations, and I look forward to the council playing its part alongside the communities of the borough.”
Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Prue Bray said:
“During the two years the Liberal Democrats have been in charge we have been busy changing the way the council operates. We are making the most effective use possible of our limited resources while being as responsive as possible to what our community needs and wants.
"This Community Vision captures the aspirations of our residents for the future. For the first time, rather than the council making assumptions about what people want, we have truly listened to what they are telling us they want the Borough to be – a fair, inclusive place where we have opportunity to flourish, no matter who we are, and where we help others to make sure they have that opportunity too.
“I want to thank everyone who has been engaged in the process so far and look forward to working with you all as we take the vision forward, not just within the council but across all the different parts of our community.”
