Wokingham’s Liberal Democrat candidate, Clive Jones, calls for change on July 4th.

The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for action to tackle the cost of living crisis, the NHS crisis and the sewage scandal.

In Wokingham Clive has been leading the campaign for work to start on the new Royal Berkshire Hospital that we were promised in 2019. As a governor at the Royal Berks, Clive has seen for himself the appalling conditions patients and staff have to endure. Work has yet to start on the new hospital and despite the fact the Conservatives promised delivery of the new hospital by 2030, there is still no firm date set for work to start.

The cost-of-living crisis is hurting local people. When Clive led the council he ensured action was taken to support those most in need. Free school meals continued to be provided during the holidays despite the unclear status of government funding. He also ensured £250,000 was made available to help those most in need.

In the local elections in May the Liberal Democrats gained a further seat, the 6th consecutive year of gaining seats, whilst the Conservative lost seats. For wards entirely within the Wokingham constituency the Lib Dems now hold 18 council seats, while the Conservatives hold only 6.

The Liberal Democrat manifesto offers a bold and fully costed £9bn plan to tackle the health and care crisis, clean up sewage in our waterways, and put the economy back on track.

Clive Jones, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Wokingham, said:
“Throughout this election I have spoken to thousands of people across Wokingham and one thing is clear - people in Wokingham are ready for change.

“The Conservative government has brought local health services to their knees.  People’s mortgages and rents have skyrocketed and water companies have been allowed to pump their filthy sewage into our rivers.

“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats at this election is a vote to elect a strong local champion who will fight every day for our NHS and care. Wokingham is my home, and I will work fulltime to ensure we get a fair deal for our community.
