Tackling anti-social behaviour

Lib Dem Town Councillor Rob Comber says “The Ritz bingo hall on Easthampstead Road was an eyesore, with a messy, overgrown frontage.” Acting on the concerns of a resident, Rob took action. Through Wokingham Borough Council’s Anti- Social Behaviour team, pressure was put on the landowner who agreed to a clear up.

Rob says “I am now acting on resident complaints about glass on pavements at the back of the site due to vandalism, which is causing a safety hazard.”

Thank you Peter

Peter Dennis has been one of your hard working Lib Dem councillors in Wescott for the past 4 years, and is standing down from the council in May. Peter says, “The best part of
being a councillor is helping residents and knowing that my actions have made a difference.

“One moment that sticks in my mind is receiving a heartfelt thank you message from a resident where my assistance was terribly important to the lives of the family concerned. “That is why I am proud to be a Lib Dem councillor – we all know that we are here to serve.”

Listening to you and taking action

Councillor Jane Ainslie says, “It’s important to hear from you about what matters to you. That’s why we consult with you about possible changes. WE LISTENED TO YOU about the
need for safer walking and cycling and have published our plan for improvements. WE LISTENED TO YOU about public litter bins and we’ve made sure this vital service is  protected.

WE LISTENED TO YOU and invested in keeping multiple bus routes running when they were under threat. WE LISTENED TO YOU about how you want to deal with the council and we have made changes. “We will keep consulting with you and listening to you to improve our community.”

St Crispins Leisure Centre

Wescott Liberal Democrat Councillors are delighted that St Crispins Leisure Centre will remain available to community groups, including the squash league. Wescott Town  councillor Rob Comber says, “The centre will be transferred to the school allowing it to provide much needed secondary school places over the next 5 years. “Places Leisure will incorporate other sports classes and activities at their other sites, including BXG FIT in Peach Place.”

Home to School Transport

The home to school transport policy for children over 16 years with special educational needs has recently been updated. Wescott Borough Councillor Jane Ainslie says, “Some parents in Wescott have had some concerns about school transport, so I am extremely pleased that the Council is able to reassure residents that the case for each child with special needs will be looked at on its own individual merits. “The Council will not make blanket decisions about transport. If any resident wants to talk to me about their case, please email me.

Borough Council to tackle violence against women

Wescott Councillors, Jane Ainslie and Lou Timlin, are delighted with the strategy to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls in Wokingham Borough.

During the previous Conservative-led administration, Jane and Lou participated in a demonstration at the council offices to highlight actions the Borough Council could take to lead efforts to end this awful behaviour. Lou says, “The Town Council has already pledged to support the White Ribbon campaign to never use, excuse or remain silent about violence against women, and I am extremely pleased that this new strategy will seek to improve the lives of women and girls across the Borough.”

Local problems with Property Companies

Councillor Peter Dennis says, “There are a lot of new developments in Wescott, especially Wescott East and North. “Having found out from residents what a problem Property Maintenance companies can be, we have been working on this together. I am extremely pleased that Clive Jones has taken up this fight at national level.

Working hard for wescott

Councillor Jane Ainslie says, “During my first four months as a Borough Councillor, I’ve been building up a better understanding of the needs of children and young people in our area. “I will advocate for the excellent educational facilities and support services for children that our residents expect. “As a Borough Councillor, I welcome residents’ feedback in this area.”

Fighting hard for new homeowners

The enormous financial effort required to own your own home when mortgage costs are soaring is already familiar. There is also another problem for leasehold owners – soaring maintenance costs on new estates. Lib Dem Councillor Peter Dennis is working with some local residents to try and tackle this issue with developers. If you are on a new estate and are having problems with increasing maintenance charges, please let Pete know!
