Fair Targets for New Housing
Wokingham needs housing that meets local needs, especially affordable housing, built at a rate sustainable for the community and the supporting infrastructure. We also need our precious green space protected from development. In the 15 year plan from 2011-2026 Wokingham built 2,000 more houses than required. Government indicated that these could be removed from our next 15 year plan but has now delayed this decision. We are being required to plan for another 2,000 more houses than would have been the case. We call upon the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to allow local authorities such as Wokingham to offset past over development in future plans, enabling fair targets for new housing.
