A lot of work has gone on with local schools and academy trusts over the past months. And I am very pleased to say that on Friday 1st March 2024 we had a secondary school place for every child who had applied.
At a time when councils across the country are struggling financially, especially those responsible for adult and children’s social care, it makes great sense to work in partnership to meet the needs of the community.
Clive Jones, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Wokingham, will not be standing for re-election to Wokingham Borough Council in the local election on 2 May 2024.
This means that, in addition to generating enough green renewable energy to power thousands of homes, Barkham Solar Farm will also generate an income of circa £2.74 million a year, which can be used to help fund essential services.
In February last year, Wokingham Borough Council established a Hardship Fund of £250,000 to tackle the root causes of poverty in our Borough by funding a number of longer term projects.
Plans to build Arborfield Green’s first new supermarket have been given the all-clear. The council has approved Sainsbury’s proposal for a 2,349 sq m store off Nine Mile Ride Extension and Sheerlands Road, which will be part of a larger district centre.
Over the last two years, Wokingham Borough Council has seen its costs rise enormously, as inflation has increased and demand for statutory services, especially in adult and children’s social care, has grown.
The Liberal Democrat leader of Wokingham Borough Council, Cllr Stephen Conway, has highlighted the financial challenges for the council in the coming years, whilst commending councillors and officers for delivering a robust budget for 2024-2027.
